Vacations and Married Life

September 8, 2014 at 9:13 am

Any time you are interested in getting rid of stress and relaxing a bit, it is a good idea for you to focus on having a vacation that will make you feel a lot better. Sometimes this is not a vacation that is going to be the best spot you have ever dreamed, but instead it will be one that can save your married life.

The following article about marriage and how to utilize vacations in order to have a happy union can help you to better decide what you need to do.

Mutual Vacation Destinations

When both partners are stressed due to home responsibilities and work, it is a good idea to have a mutual decision for the vacation. This can be done by looking at many different options for each of the family members and then deciding based on that list what seems like the best idea for both. Even though it might not be the number one destination for each individual, it is one that both will enjoy.

Sometimes a male who makes the money at work will consider the money his and therefore the vacation is his decision. While this might be good for him, the female that has spent a lot of time at home working with kids and keeping a good home will get no input into the matter. This is a recipe for disaster waiting to happen.

By trying one simple exercise, you might be able to avoid problems when dealing with travel destinations. Just write a list of different places that you want to visit and then check that list with your partners and see which location shows up on both. That could be the one that you visit and there are no qualms that it is a mutual decision.

Vacation Time and Meals

There are a lot of different things that one can do to have a great vacation, but partners should also make decisions together when they are on the road. While spending time in a certain city every decision should be made together in order to get the best results from the vacation. Spending time doing things that each person wants to do is going to make it more relaxing for both so that coming home is not stressful again.

The vacation is supposed to be a break from the rigors of every day life that can put strain on a marriage. Although happy marriages are built on foundations far stronger than just a vacation, they are integral for better understanding how your partner things and relaxing so that you can maintain happiness at all times.

Keeping Secrets in a Marriage

August 29, 2014 at 11:29 am

Everyone has things that they wish others would not know or discuss. One of the biggest things that people do when they are in relationships is keep secrets for a long time. Sometimes it starts off because telling the significant other might not be a good idea for mutual feelings; the secrets can be a real problem once you get further into the relationship and still do not want to tell them about the problems that you have had. The following article is about how secrets can destroy your marriage and why you need to be open about them in order to have a happy marriage.

Keeping Secrets While Married

When you are married it is a good idea to share everything with your partner no matter how bad it might be. As they are now your immediate family, it is going to seem difficult for you to keep anything away or justify not being upfront with them. The secrets that you have from many years prior are not that problematic, but you need to make sure to confront them earlier rather than later.

If you keep secrets, there will be times when your partner feels more betrayed by the fact they did not know something rather than the content of the secret itself. Sometimes it is best if you just make sure they know everything about you before you offer to get married so that they have a fair chance to make some sort of decision based on those skeletons in the closet.

Taking Secrets too Far

The biggest problem that people have is when they have a small secret and there is fear that the partner will not accept it. When this is the case, the fear can prove so overwhelming that the secret is never mentioned. Sometimes procrastination is a major problem with marriage and relationships in general. One person has a secret and constantly tells themselves that it is better to tell their partner at a later time. Eventually that time never comes and it ends up going untold.

Secrets are not inherently bad, but when it comes to a married couple, finding out things that you should know about your partner can be devastating. It can lead to a lot of fighting, it can lead to misunderstandings, and it can ruin the happiness of your marriage. The misunderstandings that you might have because of a lack of knowledge of your secrets can be a huge problem.

Origin of the Zodiac Signs

August 25, 2014 at 8:52 pm

Gazing up into the sky can tell one a lot about the universe and expand horizons far beyond the small planet we all live on. The Zodiac signs are part of a tradition from human culture that has tried to define many of the things that we find so difficult to understand. These signs were developed long ago by cultures that are unrecognizable to the present day.

The origin of Zodiac signs and understanding the celestial bodies is within a few different cultures. The following exploration of the astrological signs can give us insight into the people and the minds of those who created the modern interpretation.

Babylonian Beginnings

The astrological signs that kicked off the interest have been recorded in ancient Babylonian texts that reference certain “signs” in the heavens. These signs are often referred to as “Sumerian signs”, which are an indicator that these early civilizations were looking at the zodiac signs with similar interest and intrigue as their counterparts in the west.

Even though the Babylonian texts do not offer enough detail to change the view that Greco-Roman societies created the signs, it is enough for some to find interest in their beginnings.

Egyptian and Greek Astrology

The baton for astrological study was then handed from the Babylonian empires to those who were in Egypt and Greece. Although the Hellenistic world was not one unified country, the influence that this culture had over the rest of the world was great. In Egypt, a Hellenistic ruler, Ptolemy started to work on Tetrabiblos, which was the most influential work in how the signs spread through Europe and the Middle East. It became the main reference for people interested in the subject for hundreds of years.

Through the use of these signs, the ancient Greek peoples started to adequate symbols and particular traits that could be attributed to modern birth days and dates. These grew in their importance and have today become one of the most firmly rooted things within the Zodiac world.

Today the remnants of the Greek world are still felt in any person that utilizes astrological signs for themselves or others. While most do not know the origination or history behind all of the symbols, it is clear that the ancient Greek and Babylonians had an integral part in defining the way that we see ourselves today.

Confidence and Arrogance in Dating

August 15, 2014 at 11:17 am

When it comes to dating women, most men need to have confidence in themselves. There is no virtue that is built within a void, however. As Ralph Waldo Emerson repeats, one must consistently do the thing in order to have the power. Therefore, men must speak and be successful with women in order to have the confidence to speak with them. It may seem paradoxical, but it is not.

However, no matter how much confidence a man thinks he needs, it can easily turn into arrogance. There is a balance with all great virtues and finding that balance is the main purpose of life.

Building Confidence in Dating

Sometimes it seems like it is nearly impossible to build confidence when you have done nothing noteworthy. It is difficult to have the confidence to attract the most beautiful women when you have no experience. This is where having confidence in other areas of your life should really come into play. If you are a great musician or you have some great talent in another realm, it is this that you should derive your confidence from.

When you are confident in this way, you see yourself as enough for any woman. You are a great person for the reasons you contemplate and then there is no longer a barrier between you and another female. That is the great thing about self-confidence in all aspects of life.

Of course, when it comes to speaking to women, the only real confidence that you can have is that of your successes. The only way to get successes is to speak to the women that you have feelings for and see what happens.

Arrogance and Confidence

After a while, the success will lead to confidence, but it may also lead to arrogance, which is what every single person needs to be careful of. Having too much confidence in oneself can lead to this arrogant attitude that can be self-sabotaging in another way. Just make sure you are able to remain humble and you do not feel yourself superior to anyone else.

If you can avoid from feeling superior and you just steady increase your confidence on a routine basis, there is a good chance that you will be able to have many of the dating experiences that you have dreamed of.

Astrology is Evolving and Changing

August 2, 2014 at 12:58 pm

The entire discipline of astrology has evolved so much since 2000 or so years ago. It has been a strange development, but modern zodiac signs are thought of in ways that are quite different than they have historically been. The zodiac signs are now more utilized for their prophecy telling, which is a far cry from what the original scholars intended. The following article is about astrology and the evolution of the discipline over the course of time. From a very serious coordinate system to an interesting game of personalities, it has been a long journey.

Origins of Astrology and the Zodiac

Despite the seemingly western roots, the zodiac signs were actually first developed in ancient Babylon. These peoples were gazing at the stars when they decided to create the zodiac signs, which were 12 different 30 degree segments across the sky. Their calculations were not as well recorded and discussed as some of the later scholars, but they were enough to create calendars and help provide the right coordinate system that was needed for the time.

After the Babylonians, the baton of study was passed to the Greeks. It was here that some of the most preeminent work was started. There were many people who studied Astrology at the time in the Hellenistic kingdoms, but Ptolemy of Egypt was the one with the most renown. His works on the origins of astrology made it possible for many people to understand the concept for over 1700 years.

Zodiac in Roman and Modern Times

After the Romans took over the zodiac signs, they started to increase the importance of the different figures attached to them and how they related to humans. The Latin names became the most prevalent and obviously it spread across the globe. Even in distant China, the zodiac signs were starting to take a new meaning.

It was not long before the middle ages and early modern eras started to morph the zodiac signs into something based more on the symbols than the coordinates. With this change came the importance placed on birthdays and the personality traits associated with each of the signs. Today, this is actually the most well known aspect of the entire zodiac calendar and astrology as a whole. While there are plenty of scholars on the subject, the general public often has little to do with this.

Are Horoscopes Relative?

June 24, 2014 at 7:37 pm

For many years, people have started their commute to work with one objective – to check their horoscope. It gives them clues on how the day is supposed to go and how they are supposed to be feeling. However, when it comes to the love side of Horoscopes, the lines start to blur a little.

People have thrown away golden relationships or walked straight into disasters purely on the directions of a horoscope. But at the same time, people have found love where they thought there was none through the same medium. So how effective is love horoscopes?

The general consensus is that they are a creative and really enjoyable way to mix up your conversations. As far as having real accuracy, though, it’s hard to say. There really is no way for your local paper column to predict your love life, sadly!

However, when you turn to more specific love horoscopes, things change a little. Visiting a tuned in horoscope expert individually could be a little different – it’s not quite so vague then. There is much more credence in tarot readings and horoscope experts than there is in the newspaper equivalent that is for sure!

The predictions are made using the relative positions of the sun, the moon, the other planets and the stars in general. Every single day, this formation changes slightly and this gives you the zodiac numbers. Every birthday has a zodiac to go with it, and in the broadest sense love horoscopes use the attributes to create theoretical partners.

Of course, there are skeptics and believers but if you want to keep believing that the newspaper has the answer, you should think again. However, as said above, there is a significantly higher belief that experts who read you individually have much more believability about them. They not only show much more attunement to the entire situation, they are reading your actual energies rather than giving vague and broad assumptions.

Overall, it really does depend on your own take on the world of horoscopes. Do you believe that your horoscope represents you properly? Does it give you the right image and does it actually suit your personality?

Does the horoscope given to the person you are thinking about match their attributes? If you find the answer to both questions is yes, then perhaps you have something there. Again, horoscopes in the broadest sense are massively vague. If you find that it fits your own scenario, then there could be something there. But don’t look for things that are not there – nothing can be more hurtful or insulting than misguided directions from your horoscope!

The Signs of an Unhealthy Relationship

June 11, 2014 at 7:34 pm

unhealthy relationshipMarriage can only work if it is treated as a partnership. If only one person has their heart in it, it won’t work. It is important to know when your relationship is in trouble, and so today I will be speaking to you from people experience. From my life experience, these are the signs that a relationship is unhealthy. When you see these things happening in your own relationship, you need to act – fast!

You are struggling to communicate

If the communication lines have broken down, then you need to immediately sit down and work things out. What does a communication break down involve? If one partner tries to talk to another, and they refuse to listen – that is a break down. If communication leads to regular fights, then communication is failing to happen too. If you don’t fix this, then you’ll not be able to have your needs met by your partner, and the relationship will fall apart. It will also lead to self-doubt.

Your partner doesn’t take an interest in your life

Do you come home, and ask your sweetie about their day? That is great. Do they ask you about yours? If they don’t, that is a bad sign. Relationships aren’t all magic – they take work. And when one partner fails to take an interest in the life of the other, it will lead to them feeling isolated and unwanted. When effort to get to know the other and stay in-touch with them isn’t happening, then the relationship has become unhealthy and destructive.

Unhealthy Relationship Signs

No sex – or other physical touch – for a long time

Do you live in a ‘dead bedroom’ house – i.e. a house where there is no sex? A healthy sex drive is an indicator of good health. Unless your partner is asexual or has always had a low libido, then this should be a troubling sign if you previously had a healthy sex life. This doesn’t mean that your partner doesn’t love you: it could mean that they themselves are in a bad place personally and that is why they don’t want to have sex. But a low self-confidence and depression will ultimately destroy a relationship, and this needs to be addressed.

How can you deal with these issues? Open and honest communication is necessary. Sometimes couples have communication break downs because they choose the wrong time to communicate with each other. If your partner has a stressful job, don’t approach them as they are just getting  home. Instead, run them a hot bath and make them a cup of tea. When they are relaxed, gently approach the issue without any blame or anger in your voice. This is a great way to open the lines of communication, and fix your relationship.

Storage solutions in Christchurch are expensive post quakes

May 12, 2014 at 12:03 pm

Christchurch storage unitsAre you a local resident looking for EQC storage solutions in Christchurch? Then you are not alone. There are thousands of other local citizens just like you who are looking for storage solutions while their homes and businesses are being fixed by EQC. A lot of my friends have had problems with this – and here is why.

EQC is failing to get involved

If EQC has ignited local rage on, it is that it is slow to act. The earthquakes happened at the beginning of 2011. It is now creeping closer and closer to the end of 2013. In less than 6 months, it will be the fourth year anniversary of the quakes. And do you know how many people still don’t have their homes fixed? Too many to count. It is ridiculous.

So what is stopping EQC from getting stuck in and fixing everything? A few things. But one big thing, is inefficiency. The people at the top are just not good at their jobs. I understand their point: it is very hard to organize a massive earthquake relief. So I’ll give them that – they have a huge job to do. But if you look at Japan, you’ll find that they recovered much faster. The same with San Francisco. And what sets them apart? Better management. Instead of focusing on stadiums, they gave people their homes back.

Storage in Christchurch

People are going broke

A lot of people were covered by the EQC for only 6 months to a year for item storage. Well, as I said, more than 3 years has now passed. What are people supposed to do? Some have had to store their goods in their abandoned homes, and hope that theifs don’t come and steal it. Others are having to pay storage fees on top of a mortgage that they still owe on a house they can’t live in, in addition to further rent for a home that is liveable – and to add to that, rent has skyrocketted. It just isn’t fair.

It is time to do better, EQC

The people of Christchurch don’t need you to build them a stadium. They needs homes, lower rental prices and their schools back. It is time to give the people what they deserve!

5 Places for a Great Date

April 29, 2014 at 12:16 am

Dating can be a very nerve-wracking process. If this is the first date, then even more so! You worry about your conversation patters – are they interesting enough? Are you making enough sense? – And of course the first date usually needs to go well. Too much dithering or the wrong choice of location could soon put paid to your hopes of a fun and interesting night out together!

Fear not, though, there is nothing to worry about. Below are five sure-fire places you can go on a date that are bound to be a hit! These creative and innovative options may not be for everybody, but they are a good starting reference to try and get you somewhere that is going to make your date an unqualified success!

Wine Tasting

If you are the cultured sort who likes to know what he’s smelling in his wine other than lots of booze, then wine tasting could be for you both. It’s a learning process for you both and it saves you putting your foot in it later in the night should you try and play the expert without knowing the full facts! Wine tasting can be fun, it can get you both loosened up and you can even come away with a little bit more knowledge than you walked in with!

Golf Range

Golf is obviously not for everyone – some people take it far too seriously – but it can be a very relaxing way to bond and have some fun together. If you know what you are doing, you can assist them in learning process and help them work on their swing, it could be a great bonding moment for you both.

Massage Parlour

This is on the extreme side but if you are the daring sort then it could be for you! Heading for a massage parlor gets you both relaxed down and comfortable, and it certainly sends some form of message out there. Again, maybe a little bit heavy for a first date but one if you are a by-the-throat type.

Ice Skating

Ice skating is the eternal first date! It’s pretty much guaranteed to go well, presuming you don’t cause some horrible ice skating related accident! Twirl around on the ice dancefloor all night, have a few laughs picking the other up and pulling off some Dancing on Ice madness, and perhaps the end with a little kiss? Always a good selection, it’s a great way to bond and have a laugh.

Cookery Lessons

Skip ahead from the usual awkward “romantic” meal where you both learn nothing about each other and struggle to maintain eye contact! A cookery lesson is one where you both need to work together as a team to create something well worth eating in the end. It’s a great way to bond and learn how co-operative you are together, and at the end of it you get an awesome – or horrible depending on how you both do – meal to enjoy!

Again, not all of these methods are for everybody, but they certainly offer food for thought and they are sure to at least give you some kind of inspiration, right?

Tips for getting women to respond to your online dating messages

March 30, 2014 at 8:25 am

When you are a female and you are looking to date online, finding a man to take you on a date is very easy. All you need to do is put your profile up, and you will receive a lot of messages. On the other hand, if you are a male, you need to be a lot more savvy. You can’t just expect women to start messaging you – you need to message them and be proactive. One problem a lot of men find is that the women they message received a flood of mail, and that theirs gets lost in translation. To get a response, you need to stand out – but in a good way. Here are some tips for getting women to stop ignoring your messages on online dating websites.

Tip 1: Stand out from the crowd and be different

Because the woman you are messaging probably has received a lot of messages, she doesn’t have time to read them all. Instead, she will only read the ones that stand out. Putting “hi, how are you?” is not enough. You need to do more. In your title of your message, show your confidence. Say something like: “You sound interesting, and I love interesting people.” Then, in your message, set a clear, definitive offer. Tell her you are interested, and then present a date that she cannot refuse. If you sound nervous, she will pick up on it. People liked to be wanted – so use that to your advantage.

Tip 2: Have a full, legitimate profile

The temptation to use an older picture of yourself with a younger you may be tempting, but I highly recommend you don’t do this. Why? Firstly, even if this does work to get you the initial date, she will be frustrated at how different you look in real life that it won’t matter. Secondly, we women can usually tell when someone is lying in their profiles. It doesn’t matter how well you think you can do this – we can tell. So stick to the truth, and let you sell yourself.

Online dating isn’t for everyone. But many people have met their life partners online – so if you can bring up the courage, I say go for it, you have nothing to lose!

The Godley Head Track

March 16, 2014 at 3:30 pm

The Godley Head is, sadly, not actually named so because it looks like the face of a giant, spiritual overlord. No, it is named after John Robert Godley, and you can find Godley Head at the Port Hills. The area itself became most famous in the mid 1800’s as it started to see more people trading and farming in the area, especially with those just at Lyttleton Harbor.

Before long, the port was so overrun with ships that help was needed to correlate the operation. In 1865, a lighthouse was created here to ensure that people could trade and move properly from the ports. However, the lighthouse was eventually moved during the Second World War as it was in the vicinity of fortifications and cannons. The lighthouse was eventually electrified in 1946, and still stands today.

Godley Head has many wonderful sights to observe, one of the most popular being Taylor’s Mistake. A popular beach near Christchurch, this is a great place to start your long exhibition for the day, with many little coffee shops and brunch restaurants available to top up your energy reserves before moving forward. Once you have had a little bit of fuel ingested, why not take the hill out to the car park and make your way over to the Harris Bay Cave?

Whether you take the beach route or the road path, the Harris Bay Cave is well worth seeing. Make sure stick to the ridge as it can be quite steep, just keep following the goat track until you run around a wide piece of track to the left into the cave. Be warned – these caves play host to many pigeons, so be ready for a little influx as you try and enter! This is an ideal place to set up for the night or for fishing, so take advantage of this awesome natural hotspot.

Boulder Bay is another part of the walk you must take in – it plays host to some lovely locals who are more than happy to give out stories of the area and help you out in any way you need. The little cafes on the beach are well worth visiting too for a spot of lunch. This is a proper little area with so much heritage around it, you really need to speak to the locals to hear all of the brilliant tales.

This is not all, there is so much for tourists to see and do here at Godley Head, from the Summit Road just up from the car park at Godley Heads to the Frank Walters Shangri-La, you can get directions from any tour guide in the area and also the locals will be able to point you in the right direction.

The land is vast and thoroughly enjoyable to see and take part in, and the locals are genuinely lovely people who can give you any assistance you might need. If you are a tourist out this way, then check out the Godley Head walk – it’s more than worth taking in.
